UK DRONE MAP — Airspace Intelligence

Terms of Use

Effective date: 23 April 2026  ·  Version 1.1  ·  Applies to all users
⚠ This tool does not make it safe or legal to fly. Nothing here grants permission to operate a drone anywhere. You are the pilot in command — all responsibility is yours. By using the Service you accept these terms in full; if you do not accept them, do not use the Service.
01
About UK Drone Map

UK Drone Map is a free, non-commercial airspace intelligence and flight-planning aid built for UK drone pilots. References to "we", "us" and "our" mean the operator of this Service.

These terms apply to every person ("you") who accesses or uses UK Drone Map, including the web app, any associated tools, and all content displayed within them (together, the "Service").

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using the Service, you confirm that you are 18 or over, that you have read and accepted these terms, and that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement. If you do not agree, stop using the Service immediately.

02
What UK Drone Map is — and what it is not

UK Drone Map is a reference and planning aid only. It aggregates and displays publicly available data — airspace boundaries, weather, NOTAMs and other restrictions — to help you research a location before you fly.

UK Drone Map does not:
grant any permission, authorisation or exemption to fly anywhere;
replace your legal pre-flight obligations under the Air Navigation Order 2016;
substitute for official aeronautical information from NATS AIS, the CAA, or any other authority;
constitute legal, regulatory or professional advice of any kind.

A clear display, green indicator or absence of warnings in this app does not mean it is safe or legal to fly. You must independently verify all information through official sources before every flight. UK Drone Map accepts no responsibility for any failure to do so.

03
Your responsibilities as a drone pilot

Using UK Drone Map does not change or reduce your legal responsibilities. As the Remote Pilot in Command, you are solely and fully responsible for:

  • complying with the Air Navigation Order 2016 (as amended), the UK Drone Code, and all applicable CAA regulations;
  • checking current NOTAMs via NATS AIS (ais.nats.aero) before every flight — this app does not replace that requirement;
  • holding valid CAA Operator ID, Flyer ID and any required competency certificates for your aircraft and operation;
  • conducting your own risk assessment and applying your professional judgement as pilot in command;
  • maintaining situational awareness and fulfilling all see-and-avoid obligations at all times;
  • obtaining all necessary permissions from the relevant authority — the CAA, NATS, the aerodrome operator, or the landowner — before flying in any restricted or controlled area;
  • taking full responsibility for every decision you make using information from this Service.

Nothing in the Service shifts any liability away from you as pilot in command.

04
Data accuracy and limitations

Airspace, weather, NOTAM and restriction data displayed in UK Drone Map is sourced from third parties including OpenAIP, NATS AIS, Open-Meteo, OpenStreetMap and others. We do not generate this data ourselves.

This data may be incomplete, delayed, out of date or incorrect. We make no guarantee as to its accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose.

NOTAM data

NOTAM data is obtained from publicly accessible sources. NOTAMs displayed here are for reference only. It is solely your responsibility to check the official NATS briefing at ais.nats.aero before flying. UK Drone Map accepts no responsibility for any failure to do so.

Weather data

Weather data is indicative only and does not account for local conditions, micro-weather or rapidly changing situations. It is solely your responsibility to obtain and assess weather information from official sources before flying. UK Drone Map accepts no responsibility for any reliance placed on weather data displayed in this Service.

Airspace boundaries

Airspace boundaries are approximate and may not reflect temporary changes, amendments or instrument procedures. This tool is designed for use in the United Kingdom only — do not rely on it in other jurisdictions.

05
Permitted and prohibited use
You may use UK Drone Map for
  • personal flight research and pre-flight planning;
  • educational purposes relating to UK airspace and drone operations;
  • any other lawful purpose consistent with the Service's intended use.
You must not
  • use UK Drone Map to support unlawful, reckless or unsafe drone operations, or to plan flights in breach of the Air Navigation Order 2016, the UK Drone Code or any CAA regulation;
  • use it as the sole basis for flight decisions in complex or restricted airspace, or to replace an official NATS AIS pre-flight briefing;
  • use it to support fully automated or autonomous drone flights without active human oversight;
  • use it to plan or facilitate operations that interfere with emergency services, law enforcement, aerodrome activity, public events, or critical national infrastructure;
  • use it to plan operations that would infringe another person's privacy, data-protection rights or property rights;
  • scrape, bulk-download, copy, cache, framework, republish, resell or redistribute Service data, tiles or content without our prior written consent, or in breach of any third-party licence;
  • reverse-engineer, decompile, tamper with, probe, load-test or attempt to circumvent any part of the Service, its rate limits or its security controls;
  • use automated means (bots, crawlers, headless browsers) to access the Service at scale, or in any way that imposes an unreasonable load on our infrastructure or that of our third-party providers;
  • use it in any way that could endanger other airspace users, people on the ground, or critical infrastructure.
06
Third-party data and mapping

UK Drone Map reproduces and adapts data from multiple third-party sources under their respective open licences. Attribution is provided both in-app (via the map attribution control and the "Data Sources & Attribution" section in About) and in this section. Produced Works notice (ODbL §4.3): certain layers derived from OpenStreetMap (notably the Military Sites layer) are Produced Works — we have filtered OSM source data to exclude historic (WW2-era) bunkers and include only active military polygons. The underlying database remains available from OpenStreetMap.

Map tile providers (CARTO, OpenTopoMap) receive your IP address solely to deliver map tiles and perform routine operational logging. We do not intentionally share personal information with them.

Endorsement: the data originators listed above do not endorse UK Drone Map. Their attribution is shown as a condition of the licences under which their data is used.

We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability or conduct of any third-party data provider.

External links

The Service contains links to external websites (including the CAA, NATS AIS, OpenAIP and others). These links are provided for convenience only. We do not control those sites, do not endorse their content, and accept no responsibility for their accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices. Following an external link is at your own risk.

07
Privacy

UK Drone Map does not require you to create an account or provide personal information to use the Service.

Settings and preferences are stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB (via localforage). This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us.

Your browser's geolocation may be used if you request the "locate me" feature — this is optional and operates entirely within your browser. Location data is used only to centre the map and is not stored or transmitted.

Standard web server and CDN access logs may be retained for security and operational purposes. Our lawful basis for this processing is legitimate interests (maintaining the security and integrity of the Service). Logs are retained for no longer than 90 days. You have the right to request access to, rectification of, or erasure of any personal data we hold about you.

Your IP address may be shared with third-party map tile providers (such as CartoDB, ArcGIS and OpenTopoMap) solely for the delivery of map content. This is an unavoidable technical requirement of how map tiles are served. Those providers operate under their own privacy policies.

No personal data is sold, shared with third parties for marketing, or used for profiling. This Service is operated in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. For any data protection query, contact us via the details in section 13.

08
Intellectual property

The UK Drone Map name, design, source code, graphics and original content are protected by copyright, database rights, trade mark rights and other intellectual property rights as applicable.

You are granted a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose only. This licence does not include the right to copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease or create derivative works from any part of the Service. No ownership rights are transferred to you.

Third-party data displayed in the Service remains subject to the respective third party's intellectual property and licensing terms.

09
Service availability, changes and termination

We make no guarantees about uptime, performance, accuracy or continuity of service. The Service may be unavailable or degraded due to maintenance, technical failure, network issues, or events outside our reasonable control (including but not limited to third-party infrastructure failures, natural events, industrial action, or government action).

Ongoing development

The Service is under active development. Features, data layers, visual presentation and behaviour may change, be added, or be removed at any time without notice. Some features may be incomplete, experimental or in beta. You should not rely on any specific feature, layer or output remaining available or unchanged.

Changes and withdrawal

We may update, restrict, suspend, withdraw or discontinue any part of the Service — or the Service as a whole — at any time, for any reason, without notice and without liability to you.

Termination of your access

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, without notice, if we believe you have breached these terms, misused the Service, or acted in a way that risks harm to other users, to third-party data providers, or to us. Termination does not affect any rights, obligations or liabilities that accrued before it took effect, and all clauses intended to survive termination (including sections 8, 10, 12 and 13) will continue in force.

10
Limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranties of satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

No duty of care

UK Drone Map does not assume, accept or owe any duty of care — whether in contract, tort, negligence, statute or otherwise — to you or to any third party in connection with this Service, any data displayed within it, any flight operation, any flight decision, or any airspace assessment. No duty of care arises from the provision, display or availability of this Service under any circumstances. The Service is a passive display of third-party data only. It does not direct, advise, recommend, authorise or endorse any flight or operational decision of any kind.

No liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability whatsoever for any direct, indirect, consequential, special, incidental or exemplary loss, damage, injury, prosecution, regulatory enforcement action, fine, or other consequence arising from your use of or reliance on this Service, including but not limited to:

  • inaccurate, incomplete, delayed or missing airspace data;
  • inaccurate weather information;
  • missing or incorrect NOTAM information;
  • any flight decision you make, whether or not informed by this Service;
  • any accident, incident, injury or damage arising from a drone operation;
  • any regulatory or criminal enforcement action against you;
  • loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or anticipated savings;
  • Service unavailability, data failure or interruption;
  • actions, errors or omissions of any third-party data provider.

Use of this Service is entirely at your own risk.

Your indemnity

You agree to fully indemnify, defend and hold harmless UK Drone Map and its operator from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) brought by any third party arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your breach of these terms; or (c) any drone operation you conduct, whether or not you used this Service in connection with it.

Mandatory exceptions

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law, including rights you may have under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

11
Changes to these terms

We may update these terms at any time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. It is your responsibility to check these terms periodically. If you continue to use the Service after the revised terms have taken effect, you will be taken to have accepted them.

If you do not accept the updated terms, you must stop using the Service before they take effect.

12
Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from your use of the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without affecting any mandatory consumer protection rights you are entitled to under the law of the country in which you are based.

13
General
Statutory rights

Nothing in these terms affects any statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded or limited by agreement, including rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, that provision shall be deemed severed from the remaining terms, which shall continue in full force and effect.

Waiver

A failure or delay by us to exercise any right or remedy under these terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or remedy, nor does it prevent or restrict any further exercise of that or any other right or remedy.

Entire agreement

These terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us in relation to your use of the Service and supersede all previous agreements, representations and understandings between us relating to that subject matter.
